Dear OHBM Community:
I am delighted to invite you to Sendai for the 8th annual meeting of the Organization for Human Brain Mapping. Hideo Sakata (President of the Meeting), Ryuta Kawashima (Chair of the Local Organizing Committee), Peter Bandettini (Chair of the Program Committee) and their colleagues have prepared what promises to be an unforgettable scientific, educational, and social event.
Platform presentations at the Brighton 2001 meeting were of superb quality, posters reported exciting new findings, and the educational programs received rave reviews. Sendai 2002 will maintain these standards and will carry the torch to new heights.
Our organization has distinctive features. It has a truly global reach and offers extensive opportunities for international collaborations. Another unique characteristic is the synthesis of methodological breakthroughs with cognitive neuroscience research. We emphasize clinical applications and welcome patient-based presentations by neurologists, psychiatrists, psychologists and other clinicians. Last, but not least, excellent educational programs allow the novice to be introduced to this field and the experienced investigator to remain abreast of rapidly unfolding developments. These fundamental characteristics of OHBM will shape Sendai 2002.
The 8th annual meeting in Sendai will introduce many new Japanese colleagues to OHBM. The setting will offer just the right mixture of opportunities for work and diversion. You will not be bored! Travel stipends will be available and no effort will be spared to make the meeting accessible and affordable for all participants. On behalf of OHBM Council, I encourage you to attend Sendai 2002 and look forward to welcoming you personally.

Dear HBM2002 Attendee:
It is a great pleasure and honor for us to welcome you to Sendai for The 8th International Conference on Functional Mapping of the Human Brain. Sendai is called "The Capital of the Forest" surrounded by beautiful natural settings loved by poets and scholars. Here, we are going to have a conference for the frontier of human science.
21st century has been declared "Century of the Brain" in Japan. We are well aware of the power of neuroimaging for exploring unknown areas of the brain. The meeting will focus on the functional mapping of the association cortex and limbic system as the most unknown of the unexplored areas of the brain. We understand cognitive and integrative functions may activate these areas, yet specific functions of sensory and motor system, perception and attention, cognition and emotion, memory and language in normal and pathological states are to be assigned to individual subdivisions of these structures. Theoretical and methodological progress will also be presented together with the educational program as an integral part of the conference. We look forward to an exciting conference in Sendai, following up the great success of the previous meetings up to Brighton in 2001.
